(WASHINGTON D.C.) — On Wednesday, the U.S. Merit System Protection Board ordered that nearly 6,000 probationary USDA workers, who were fired by the Trump Administration a few weeks ago, are to be reinstated while court challenges play out.

According to Reuters and CNN, the probationary workers who had been at USDA for a year or less are to be reinstated, for at least 45 days. USDA has to show the U.S. Merit System Protection Board that they have complied with reinstating the employees within five days.

The order came from board member Cathy Harris, whom a federal judge blocked President Trump from firing earlier this week.

Many of the probationary workers who have been ordered to be reinstated began losing their jobs at USDA on February 13th as the Trump Administration and the Department of Government Efficiency began it’s widespread firings to downsize the federal government.

We will continue to follow this breaking news story as it unfolds.
