Wildfire Burns Through Canadian Forest, Sending Smoke South

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced the USDA is sending resources to support wildfire efforts in several Canadian provinces, including Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Alberta.

The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center escalated its preparedness level to the maximum level of 5 in late May as fires across the country intensified. The USDA has sent an air tanker to Alberta and is deploying over 150 U.S. firefighters and support personnel to assist with the response. The agency is also supplying equipment such as pumps, hoses, and sprinkler kits.

“We are here to help our neighbors during their time of need, and our Forest Service Wildland Firefighters are the best in the business,” Rollins said. “I’m thankful for the brave men and women who are stepping up to serve and pray for their success as they fight fires and save lives.”
