USDA estimates 2025 planted corn acreage at 95.203 million acres and soybeans at 83.380 million—both coming in just below the March 31 projections and under the average pre-report trade expectations. Soybean acres could drop even further in the August report, as a delayed wheat harvest may prevent some double-crop soybeans from going in the ground—something not likely reflected in the June 1 survey. All wheat acreage saw a modest increase, with slight gains across winter and spring wheat. While none of these acreage figures are particularly market-moving on their own, a tighter soybean number does leave the market more exposed to any weather-related disruptions this summer.

Sam Hudson with Cornbelt Marketing talks on the report and other factors that weighed in on the trade.
