With today serving as the 20th anniversary of the Renewable Fuel Standard being signed into law, the Renewable Fuels Association applauded a bipartisan group of lawmakers for introducing Congressional resolutions commemorating the success of the landmark energy policy. The resolutions were led by Sen. Pete Ricketts (R-NE) in the Senate and Rep. Max Miller (R-OH) in the House.

“Over the past two decades, the Renewable Fuel Standard has delivered tremendous benefits for our nation—reducing dependence on foreign oil, lowering fuel costs for consumers, creating hundreds of thousands of jobs across rural America, and strengthening the agricultural economy,” said RFA President and CEO Geoff Cooper. “It has spurred market competition and expanded choices at the pump for drivers nationwide. We’re thrilled to see Congress commemorating this milestone with a strong bipartisan resolution, and we applaud Senator Pete Ricketts, Representative Max Miller, and the many lawmakers who joined in honoring one of the most successful and forward-looking energy policies in U.S. history.”

Cosponsoring the House resolution are Reps. Don Bacon (R-NE), Mike Bost (R-IL), Nikki Budzinski (D-IL), Angie Craig (D-MN), Randy Feenstra (R-IA), Mike Flood (R-NE), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA), Zack Nunn (R-IA) and Adrian Smith (R-NE). In the Senate, cosponsors are Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Deb Fischer (R-NE), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Tina Smith (D-MN) and Joni Ernst (R-IA).

Earlier this week, RFA published a report on ethanol industry successes since this landmark policy was put into place—emphasizing lower gas prices, more energy independence, stronger farms and cleaner air. On Tuesday, RFA released a podcast interview with Cooper about the importance of the RFS and its achievements.
