MOLINE, Ill. – John Deere announced it has approved the use of B30 biodiesel across its entire lineup of Tier 4 engines, expanding from the previously approved B20 blends. The announcement will be spotlighted this week at the 2025 Farm Progress Show in Decatur, Illinois, where all John Deere equipment in the Ride and Drive area will operate on B30 biodiesel.
“At John Deere, we’re committed to supporting and growing the use of renewable fuels in our equipment,” said Pierre Guyot, Senior Vice President of John Deere Power Systems. “We believe strongly in the role that renewable fuels play in supporting the agriculture economy and are excited to offer our customers – including those who grow the very crops used to make renewable fuels – the opportunity to leverage higher blends of fuels like biodiesel in their own equipment.”
John Deere has long backed renewable fuels in its machinery. Tier 4 engines were already approved for B20 biodiesel and RD100 renewable diesel, while lower-tier engines can use biodiesel blends up to B100. The company’s spark ignition turf and utility equipment is approved for E10 ethanol, and John Deere is exploring higher ethanol blends, including a concept 9.0L engine that runs on E98.
Industry leaders say the move benefits farmers and sustainability efforts. Caleb Ragland, President of the American Soybean Association, called it “a win-win situation for U.S. soybean farmers and rural communities.” Scott Fenwick of Clean Fuels Alliance America said the decision “demonstrates true leadership in supporting America’s farmers and advancing sustainable fuels.
