PIERRE, SD – The South Dakota Beef Industry Council (SDBIC) is pleased to announce Alex Mills as the new Director of Communications and Marketing. She is passionate about helping to support the council’s mission of promoting beef and strengthening the connection between producers and consumers.

Alex is originally from Lexington, TN and is a graduate of Murray State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. She has hands-on experience in the meat industry as a former butcher, working alongside producers, and promoting agricultural education to the public. Alex first came to South Dakota in January of 2025 to continue training horses, as she did down south. She quickly fell in love with the people, the land, and the beef industry as it is here. Now, she is excited to call South Dakota home and use her experience to serve beef producers across the state.

“I’m thrilled to join the SDBIC and to play a part in sharing beef’s story,” said Alex. “People deserve to know where their food comes from, and they deserve to hear it firsthand from all the people that bridge the gap between farm and table. I’m passionate about beef producers and consumers alike and I’m thrilled to be able to contribute to the future of beef.”

The South Dakota Beef Industry Council works on behalf of beef producers to fund education, research, and promotion efforts that ensure beef remains a trusted, sustainable, and delicious protein choice.
