JBS USA broke ground Tuesday on its new “state of the art” sausage manufacturing facility in Perry, Iowa, marking what company and state officials called a major milestone for the community and the state’s pork industry.
The 110-acre facility, located on the southeast side of Perry, is expected to be operational within a year, with plans to add a second shift about six months later. Once fully operational, the plant is projected to employ around 500 workers.
JBS first announced the project in May and later received a $12 million tax incentive from the Iowa Economic Development Authority Board. The incentive is tied to the creation of nearly 60 positions that will pay $30 or more per hour.
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig joined company representatives and local leaders at the groundbreaking ceremony, welcoming JBS to Perry. Naig said the project will add “tremendous value” to Iowa’s pork industry and praised the company’s investment as a testament to the state’s strength in value-added agriculture. He added that the new facility highlights Iowa’s “long-term strength” and continued leadership in agriculture production and processing.
