Washington, D.C. — Farm Action issued the following response to President Donald Trump’s executive order to address price fixing and anticompetitive behavior in the food supply chain.
This statement can be attributed to Angela Huffman, Farm Action’s President and co-founder:
“Farm Action welcomes the administration’s move to crack down on the price fixing and anticompetitive behavior that has run rampant in our food and agriculture system for decades. We look forward to working with these task forces and fully expect they will quickly reach the conclusion farmers and ranchers have known for years: strong antitrust enforcement is essential to protect producers and bring down food prices. The evidence is already in—from meatpacking to fertilizer to farm equipment, consolidation has given a handful of corporations unchecked power to distort markets and drive up costs for farmers and families.
The task forces must now act with urgency. If the administration wants people to feel real relief at the checkout line, these efforts must translate into swift enforcement and meaningful accountability.”
Farm Action has uncovered instances of unchecked anticompetitive behavior across numerous sectors in recent years, including the egg and fertilizer industries. To see the full scope of consolidation in the food system, visit our Agriculture Consolidation Data Hub.
