Dr. Mendel Miller Named South Dakota State Veterinarian and Executive Secretary of the South Dakota Animal Industry Board

The man that has served as the Assistant State Veterinarian for South Dakota since 2009 has been named the new State Veterinarian.

Dr. Mendel Miller will also serve as the Executive Secretary of the South Dakota Animal Industry Board. 

Miller said he’s grateful for the opportunity and for the privilege of having worked alongside previous State Veterinarians Dr. Sam Holland, Dr. Dustin Oedekoven and Dr. Beth Thompson. He said he looks forward to working closely with the Animal Industry Board and South Dakota producers to protect and preserve the livestock industry.

Prior to working for the AIB, Miller owned a private mixed-animal practice in Canton, South Dakota, for more than 13 years. Miller is a 1991 graduate of Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. 

Miller lives in Pierre with his wife, Darla, and daughter, Ryann, who attends and plays basketball at Dakota State University.

The South Dakota Animal Industry Board is responsible for protecting and preserving the health of the State’s livestock to enhance productivity and to ensure the safety of meat products for the public.
