The next WASDE report on January 12 will be one of the first big market-moving updates of 2026 and could set the tone for the year ahead. Average pre-report trade estimates show U.S. corn production around 16.55 billion bushels with a 184.0 bpa yield, trimming carryout to roughly 1.99 billion bushels — a slightly tighter outlook that markets will be watching closely. Soybean production is expected near 4.35 billion bushels with a 52.7 bpa yield, and carryout is forecast to stay essentially unchanged at about 290 million bushels. Traders will also be watching weather developments in South America, where dry pockets could influence early crop potential and seasonal balance sheets. Questions remain about expanded export opportunities — including whether markets like Venezuela might step up for U.S. grain — and in livestock, all eyes are on how demand is shaping up for cattle as we move into 2026.

Note: more precise WASDE numbers will be available once USDA releases the full report on Jan. 12.
