Ankeny, Iowa— The Soy Transportation Coalition (STC) is pleased to announce the addition of the Virginia Soybean Board as a member organization. Virginia becomes the 15th state soybean board to join the STC. The fifteen member states of the STC comprise approximately 88 percent of total U.S. soybean production.
The Virginia Soybean Board approved joining the STC at its March board meeting.
“The more cost-effective, reliable, and resilient our supply chain is, the more competitive U.S. soybean farmers will be in the global marketplace,” says Susan Watkins, a soybean producer from Sutherland, Virginia, and director on the Virginia Soybean Board. “Transportation must continue to be a major area of focus of soybean farmers as we strive to remain profitable in a complex and uncertain future. I am pleased the Virginia Soybean Board decided to join the Soy Transportation Coalition, and I am proud to be appointed by my fellow Virginia Soybean directors to serve as their representative to the STC board.”
Raylen Phelon, a soybean producer from Melvern, Kansas, and chairman of the STC, says, “The board of directors of the Soy Transportation Coalition welcome the Virginia Soybean board as a member organization. Their support and engagement will enhance our ability to promote farmer profitability by improving the transportation system we rely upon.”
When the STC was established in 2007, the organization was comprised of seven state soybean boards, along with the American Soybean Association and the United Soybean Board. Fifteen state soybean boards are now members of the STC.
