Bismarck, N.D. – The North Dakota Farm Bureau Foundation recognized Jill Vigesaa as the first-ever recipient of the Legacy of the Land Award during the Spring Harmony Gala on March 13 in Fargo.
The award celebrates individuals who have made a lasting impact on agriculture through leadership, education, and service. Vigesaa exemplifies those qualities through a lifetime dedicated to connecting people with agriculture and strengthening understanding of the industry.
Raised on a farm near Lakota, Vigesaa developed a deep-rooted passion for agriculture early in life. After earning her degree from North Dakota State University, she and her husband, Claire, built a life centered on agriculture and family.
Throughout her career, Vigesaa has been a tireless promoter of agricultural education, sharing the industry’s story with diverse audiences. From her work with the Foster County Soil Conservation District and the TREES program, to founding Women’s Ag Day, engaging with Project Food, Land & People, teaching Ag in the Classroom, organizing Farm to Table events, and now bringing Breakout Boxes to classrooms across the state, she has consistently seized opportunities to advocate for agriculture.
Vigesaa is also known for her innovative approach to education, including the development of interactive classroom tools that engage students in critical thinking while helping them understand agriculture’s vital role in everyday life.
“Jill’s ability to connect agriculture to people of all ages and backgrounds is truly remarkable,” said NDFB Executive Vice President and CEO Jeffrey Missling. “Her passion and dedication have left a lasting imprint on our communities and the future of agriculture in North Dakota.”
The Legacy of the Land Award was created to honor individuals whose work helps ensure agriculture remains strong for generations to come. Vigesaa’s contributions reflect that mission through her commitment to education, outreach, and building meaningful connections between producers and the public.
The Spring Harmony Gala, hosted by the North Dakota Farm Bureau Foundation, brought together members and supporters from across the state to celebrate agriculture and raise funds for programs including Living Ag Classroom, Special Assignment Pizza, Young Farmers & Ranchers, and Promotion & Education initiatives.
Proceeds from the event support the Foundation’s efforts in agricultural education, youth programming, disaster relief, and scholarships.
Vigesaa’s recognition as the inaugural recipient sets a high standard for future honorees and underscores the importance of investing in agricultural education and leadership.
