Success in the beef industry is rooted in doing things efficiently and effectively, and a strategic parasite control program is foundational to both, says Abby Blackwell, cattle manager at Tiffany Cattle Company.
With two finishing yards and two starter yards located in central Kansas, Tiffany Cattle Company is committed to innovation and continuous improvement to ensure the operation stays on the leading edge of feedlot management and animal welfare.
Valcor® (doramectin and levamisole injection) is a recent addition to Tiffany Cattle Company’s on-arrival program, and it’s a product that Blackwell and her team have come to appreciate for the convenience and effectiveness that the combination dewormer offers. With Valcor, the team has a single administration type, which simplifies inventory needs.
“It’s our goal to get animals in and out of the chute as fast as possible in order to reduce stress and protect their condition,” Blackwell says. “Valcor helps us do that. It helps us beat the heat in the middle of summer, and we can get cattle processed before it gets to be 80 degrees at 9 a.m. It helps us better balance employee workloads, so that they can get through the yards and perform animal health checks before it gets too hot as well.”
In addition to the time savings that Valcor offers the operation, she appreciates the product administration route. Valcor is administered by injection and has more reliable dosing than pour-on or oral drench, which can lead to greater efficacy.1
“We can control more of the absorption rate when we don’t have to worry about an animal spitting it out or not getting the proper dosage of the product,” she explains. “We make every effort to administer the right amount of Valcor based on animal weight, so we can optimize animal performance in the feedyard.”
