The Midwest Council on Agriculture (MWCA) today applauded the House of Representatives passage of the 2026 Farm Bill, calling the vote an important step forward as the legislation moves to the U.S. Senate.

“While no farm bill is ever perfect, advancing this legislation through the House is a meaningful and necessary step,” said Perry Aasness, President of the Midwest Council on Agriculture. “Producers across the Midwest need certainty, and today’s vote shows that lawmakers recognize the urgency in farm country.”

Aasness noted that the farm bill touches every corner of the agricultural economy, from risk management and conservation to nutrition programs and rural development. The previous farm bill was passed in 2018.

While acknowledging areas where improvements can still be made, Midwest Council leadership stressed that forward momentum is preferable to continued delay.

“This bill represents progress,” said MWCA founder and former House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson. “Our focus now shifts to the Senate where we will be encouraging senators from both parties to build on the House’s work and deliver a final product that serves all of agriculture.”

About the Midwest Council on Agriculture: The Midwest Council on Agriculture works to harness the power of a multi-state coalition of farmers, ranchers, agribusinesses, commodity groups and agricultural lenders united with common goals and to advocate for strong agriculture and economic policy that promotes long-term sustainability of the agriculture industry in the Midwest region.
